Powerful, Reliable and Efficient

5 ton Electric Truck in Use at the Krombacher Brewery

STILL Being Used at Krombacher

Challenge: Electric trucks with individual requirement profiles are to be implemented in reducing particulate and noise emissions.

Solution:
STILL develops these requirements into a viable product: the STILL RX 60-50/600, adapted to the special requirements of the beverage industry, convinces with its speed and excellent driver visibility.

Product:
RX 60-50/600 Electric Truck

Krombacher, one of Europe's most modern breweries, had long been considering the conversion to electric trucks in order to reduce particulate and noise emissions. STILL worked together with Krombacher to develop an improved and strengthened RX 60-50/600 electric counterbalance truck which has repeatedly proven itself in the private brewery's logistics centre.

Sustainability and CO2 reduction are both of key importance to Krombacher, one of Europe's largest private breweries with a production of over 5.5 million hectolitres. The use of electric lifts is meant to reduce particulate emissions while maintaining expected turnover and performance values. 12 electric and 25 diesel lifts are in use loading and transporting heavy product palettes at the 9 hectare logistics centre. Four new powerful electric forklifts - STILL RX 60-50/600 models, specially adapted to the needs of the beverage industry, are proving themselves at the logistics centre.

Truck Fleets

with Diesel and Electric Trucks

An average of 320 lorries - up to 350 at peak times - are loaded and unloaded daily during three shift operations. Günter Hombach, Krombacher's warehouse and loading manager confirms, "Our fleet of diesel and electric trucks has to move about 32,000 pallets every day. The sheer size of our warehouse means that we need to be very efficient when moving products in our logistics centre."

A forklift truck guidance system coordinates the centre's 37 diesel and electric forklifts. At the same time, the system organizes incoming and outgoing deliveries as well as the resupply of filling facilities as well as the buffer and commissioning zones.

Both incoming and outgoing deliveries, as well as storage area availability, are entered into the system by scanning labels attached to the pallets themselves. Forklifts are used to unload and transport pallets of incoming empty bottles to the automated pallet conveyors. From here they are taken to the buffer warehouse or directly to the filling facilities.

Emission Free Efficiency

STILL Electric Trucks Convince

Krombacher and STILL worked together in a series of workshops to define the requirements profile for the RX 60 electric counterbalance trucks with a load capacity of up to 5 tons. STILL's development teams then used these requirements to create a viable product for this special market. The RX 60–50 fulfils all of the crucial requirements for drive speeds, lift and lowering speeds as well as turning radius and the time required for a complete battery change. Krombacher is already using 12 STILL electric trucks at their brewery. The RX 60, with a load capacity of up to 5 tons, is the most powerful vehicle in this family of trucks.

The truck's speed, acceleration and driver visibility have all received the highest levels of praise. This intensive cooperative effort between STILL and Krombacher has proven to be both productive and lucrative for all sides. Driver visibility is very good, allowing the operator to load and unload pallets more quickly and safely.

The electric truck also shows great results when compared to traditional, engine forklifts. The firing time for the particulate filters alone is impressive at only 30 minutes and a complete battery change takes only about 5 minutes. This, of course, makes a huge difference in terms of vehicle availability and down time. The RX 60, with its quiet and environmentally friendly electric drive makes it the optimal solution for use indoors. It is, however, not limited to these areas and has been proving itself regularly in outdoor use at the Krombacher brewery.
